Re: the May 18 article "Arizona becomes 7th state to allow dental therapists to drill and extract."
A friend of mine suggested that the reason his dentist lived in such a nice home was the fees the dentist charged. Of course, the dentist had to pay a lot of tuition fees, and work hard, to get to their current position. Still, because our mouths are part of our bodies — and disease in the mouth can cause overall health problems — I wonder why we need to train less-qualified "therapists" if, say, Medicaid would cover dentistry?
By the way, I get excellent dental care just over the border in Nogales, Sonora, for about one-quarter of what I paid my former Tucson dentist. They are honest — and the waiting room is always filled with North Americans.
