The city of Lompoc plans to begin utilizing its new downtown Transit Transfer Center on Monday.
The center, which had previously been located at the Mission Plaza Shopping Center, will now be along Cypress Avenue, near H, I and J streets in the Old Town area. The move was made, according to a city spokeswoman, in an “effort to enhance public transportation services and improve the effectiveness of the local, regional and interregional transit connectivity system.”
The Transit Transfer Center will serve the City of Lompoc Transit (COLT) bus routes, as well as the Wine Country Express and the Breeze Bus. In addition, the new location will add the Clean Air Express to the buses it serves, according to the city.
The old Transit Transfer Center will still be used by all its previous routes, but it will no longer serve as the hub.

The new Transit Transfer Center facility integrates a bus loading area with the capacity to serve five to seven buses, including new pedestrian sidewalks that feature decorative pavers, Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) accessible ramps, five bus shelters, site furnishings, lighting, landscaping and irrigation.
Funding for the Transit Transfer Center project came from California Proposition 1B, which was passed in 2006 to provide funds for transit and highway projects in the state. The cost of the project, according to the city, was about $800,000.
