The Southwest Arizona Patient Alliance (SWAPA) is having a meeting tonight to dispense information about medical marijuana.
Organizers will explain the benefits of medial marijuana for people who are sick or dying; provide information on obtaining medical marijuana and caregiver registration cards; and raise money to assist those who are unable to afford the cost of their registration cards.
The free information meeting and fundraiser runs from 5 to 9 p.m. at the pavilion in the 300 block of North Fourth Avenue, across the street from The Hut.
In 2010 voters approved Proposition 203 and the Arizona Medical Marijuana Act became law. However, state officials are challenging aspects of the law, preventing it from being fully implemented.
SWAPA was founded after passage of the Arizona Medical Marijuana Act to give patients and caregivers in Tucson and Southern Arizona a voice, and to promote patients' rights in the legal, medical and political processes for medical marijuana. The group is in the process of applying for 501(c)(3) nonprofit status.
