The Tucson night sky will be visited by a meteor shower tonight, Wednesday and Thursday nights. The annual Perseid meteor shower peaks these nights and will be visible from the Tucson area, said Michael Terenzoni, astronomy coordinator at the University of Arizona Science Center.
Meteor watchers should be prepared to drive up to 30 minutes out of town and away from the city lights to get a prime view of the shower, Terenzoni said.
The best times to view are the hours after sunset and before moonrise and recommended locations are Saguaro National Park East or areas west of Tucson such as the Tucson Mountains or Saguaro National Park West.
