The Oracle School Foundation (OSF) Fling Gala took place on Friday, March 15, but the auction events are still ongoing. At this annual charity event, the proceeds of which go directly to the Oracle School District, over 250 attendees signed up for various Auction items which include music concerts, vacations, wine tastings, services, cooking classes and themed dinners.
One of the themed dinner events took place on Sunday, April 14, when Bob and Prudy Bowers opened their home and garden for a South African Safari Tour. The Bowers visited five South African countries over 77 days from August through October 2022, traveling more than 7,000 miles in rental cars to see and photograph the birds, mammals and other wildlife.
Fourteen guests at the Safari were treated to South African appetizers and main dishes like Chilli Bites(Dhaltjies), Samosas, Boerewors (homemade sausages) on the Braii, Bobotie, Bunny Chow, Spicy Jumbo Shrimp with Old Cape Flavors, and Malva Pudding accompanied by the delicious South African Liquor Amarula for dessert. South African wines were served alongside the foods, and guests were treated to a 45-minute annotated slide show with African music. Guests left with a gift box of South African treats including Soetkoekies (South African Wine Cookies), Rusks and Chocolate Pepper Cookies.
