Former UA star Simon
is guest for store opening
Dick’s Sporting Goods is holding a grand opening celebration this weekend for its new Tucson location, 6327 E. Broadway in Wilmot Plaza.
On Saturday, former University of Arizona basketball star Miles Simon will be in the store from noon to 2 p.m. Simon led the Wildcats to their national championship in 1997.
The first 100 adults in line to shop at the store on Saturday and Sunday will receive a “mystery gift card” ranging in value from $5 to, for one winner per day, $500.
The Tucson location is the retailer’s ninth store in Arizona and its 627th nationwide.

Arizona drivers are paying an average price of $2.49 at the pump, saving 5.4 cents per gallon compared to last week, AAA Arizona says.
Nationwide, drivers are paying an average of $2.37, which reflects a savings of 6.9 cents over last week.
“The statewide average has fallen 55 consecutive days for a total of 36 cents per gallon,” Linda Gorman, director of communications and public affairs for AAA Arizona, said in a news release. “Prices are expected to continue to slide as driving demand experiences a seasonal decrease heading into the fall, provided the price of crude remains relatively low and refineries are able to conduct routine maintenance without issues.”
Tucson and Flagstaff hold the low and high state fuel averages at $2.28 and $2.78 per gallon, respectively.
