Starting Monday, you'll be able to watch a local news program all day on Cox channel 3.
KVOA Channel 4 and Cox Communications announced Thursday their plan to play KVOA's four daily news broadcasts live on cable channel 3, and repeat the latest news broadcast throughout the day.
The channel will be called the Southern Arizona News Network, and it will also feature fresh scrolling headlines and weather reports at the bottom of the screen.
"It gives our customers a chance to view news at a time that's going to be convenient to them," said Anne Doris, vice president of Cox Communications for Southern Arizona.
KVOA's 6 a.m., noon, 5 p.m., 6 p.m. and 10 p.m. newscasts will play live on channel 3, and each will repeat until the next live program comes on, said Gary Nielsen, president and general manager of KVOA. However, the 10 p.m. newscast is not scheduled to replay just a few times and not play all night, he said.

"People will use this as a destination to pop in and out. It really will not be stale to the viewer," Doris said.
Cox Media will provide the advertising on the new channel, while KVOA provides the programming. Doris and Nielsen would not disclose other terms of the deal.
The new station will also allow KVOA to cover breaking news on Cox channel 3 without interrupting programming on channel 4, Doris said.
The station will be analog, meaning that all Cox customers (not just Cox digital cable customers) will be able to watch. Although it initially will only be available through Cox, "We're going to talk to Comcast and see what their interest level might be," said Michael Dunne, director of media relations for Cox Communications.
