You know you have something valuable to offer customers, but how do you actually get them to sign up for your emails? Ryan Pinkham, content manager at Constant Contact, suggests using these tools to build up your list.
- Use a paper sign-up sheet. It’s one of the most effective ways to grow your email list, especially if you interact with customers face-to-face. Give them a reason to receive emails like this example — “Would you like to receive emails every week about new, hard-to-find beer and free beer-tasting events?”
- If you share your emails on social media many of your followers won’t be on your email list. People forward your emails to their friends, so add a “Join My Mailing List” button to any email you send out.
- Put a sign-up form on your website. Your website will be the first contact many people have with your business. Don’t miss the opportunity to stay connected with new visitors.
- When you host events where people register or buy tickets in advance, ask people to join your email list, too.
- Collect email addresses at industry networking events, trade shows and conferences.
- Don’t overlook your existing contacts — colleagues, friends and family members.
- Offer exclusive access to something that they can’t find anywhere else, like the latest news about discounts, specials and events before it’s posted to social media.
- Give customers the option to sign up with their mobile device. Use a QR (quick response) code that can be read via a smartphone app to promote a special email offer.
- Add a sign-up option to your membership forms.
- Put a sign-up form on your Facebook page.
- Contests engage customers and generate buzz. Ask people to provide their email address for the chance to win a free supply of your product.
- Run a Facebook ad. Facebook offers a number of advertising options that you can use to reach a new audiences.
