Nimbus Brewing Co. has filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy reorganization.
The owner of the Tucson brewery, Jim Counts, also filed for personal bankruptcy.
Counts’ attorney, Eric Sparks, said that the company expects a successful reorganization, attributing the company’s financial difficulties to trouble with gas meters at its brewery and bar at 3850 E. 44th St. in August 2011.
Southwest Gas Co. installed six meters over six weeks, effectively shutting down beer production for the period and resulting in a loss of $500,000 to $1 million for the company, Sparks said.
Counts filed a lawsuit against Southwest Gas on March 15.
Southwest Gas spokeswoman Libby Howell said the company is aware of Counts' lawsuit and disputes the claim, declining to comment further.
