Roh’s, Inc. owner Bill Roh Jr. says he’s closing down Tucson’s oldest electronics and TV shop May 15, citing chain competition, the struggling economy and untimely street construction.
Roh’s grandfather, Edmund Roh, started the business in 1940 as a radio and phonograph shop and began selling TVs in 1957.
“It’s a pretty emotional thing, to shut down a business this old and integrated into the community as ours,” Roh Jr. said. “It’s very personal in nature, but I’m not the type to get down.”
The spirit of the company will live on, said Roh Jr., 44. Although the closing of Roh’s Fine Home Electronics signifies the end of the business’s retail operations, he’ll continue the consulting and service side, along with brother Don, in the form of Roh’s Commercial Audio and Video. The organization will supply audio and visual setups to commercial businesses, as well as custom projects for homes. Roh Jr. said Raytheon Missile Systems is among his clients.
