- Barrio Brewing Company: In partnership with a statewide collective of women brewers who convened in Tucson last month to help craft a special beer to raise funds for charity, Barrio Brewing Company announced that subsequent sales of its commemorative State Bird Double IPA raised $10,000 for women’s shelters. Tucson’s Wings for Women, which provides a safe environment for homeless and impoverished women and children, will receive $3,500 as a result of the fundraising effort. The balance of the total amount raised will be donated by Barrio to the Sojourner Center in Phoenix, the Northland Family Help Center in Flagstaff, and the Prescott Area Women’s Shelter in Prescott.
- Trico Electric Cooperative: Awarded a total of $40,000 to nine local agencies that provide food, basic needs, education and literacy to children and adults in Trico’s service areas. POWER grants of $5,000 went to Marana Unified School District student services, the Amado Community Food Bank, Community Home Repair Projects of AZ, Sahuarita Food Bank, Arivaca Helping Hearts, and Marana School District family resources. United Community Health Center and Make Way for Books each received $4,500 grants. Arizona Youth Partnership was awarded $1,000. Trico employees select the grant funding focus each year and a volunteer committee of employees makes the final selections.
