That Charles Dickens was on to something with his "A Christmas Carol."
The story of sweet Tiny Tim, who just wants everyone to be happy, and greedy Scrooge, who just wants everyone to cater to him, has had more adaptations than a rabbit has offspring.
Count New York Stage among those. The company has taken the story and transformed it into "Scrooge in Concert," a musical extravaganza. UApresents brings it to the Old Pueblo for two performances next week.
"Extravaganza" is the right word. It has a cast of 30, elaborate Victorian costumes, and music — from big Broadway sounds to ballads to rock music. And the dancers? They'll be going from break- to step-dancing.
The musical was first staged back in 1998 at the Lambs Theater in Manhattan. Created by composer Philip David Stern, it's been growing into a larger stage production ever since.
