Sir Veza’s Taco Garage plans on celebrating Mexican Independence Day with its second annual "Copa de Hot Dog" Sonoran hot dog eating contest this Sunday at its Tucson Mall location.
Twenty contestants will throw down and hopefully not throw up after eating as many dogs as humanly possible in ten minutes.
The winner of the contest will receive $500 in cash and prizes. Second place will get $300 and third place, $100.
Contestants will be chosen at random, though special consideration will be given to those coming to participate from out of town.
The event is free to enter.
Applications are available at Sir Veza’s, 220 W. Wetmore Road. They must be turned in by Saturday morning during regular business hours (the restaurant opens at 11 a.m.) to the same location for consideration.
