Grumpy's Jr. is out; Jimmy's Bistro is in
For the fifth time in less than four years, the restaurant at Wade and North Silverbell roads has changed names.
The latest casualty occurred June 14 when the year-old Grumpy's Jr., the sibling of Grumpy's on North Ina and West Shannon roads, closed. Grumpy's owner Tim Klump said he found it was too much work to run two restaurants.
On June 15, Jimmy Ledbetter slapped the star-spangled sign for his Jimmy's American Bistro over Grumpy's sign and began the next chapter in the corner spot of the Continental Ranch Shopping Center, 8235 N. Silverbell Road.
This chapter will be filled with wood-smoked meats, signature beef brisket, fresh pan-roasted chicken, blackened salmon, 11 varieties of burgers and a baker's dozen sandwiches.

"There's no frozen vegetables or frozen chicken breasts. We're serving fresh food," said the 38-year-old Ledbetter, a father of two and a three-year resident of Continental Ranch.
Ledbetter crafted the menu with executive chef Robert Stadie (formerly of Skyline Country Club, The Tack Room and Hacienda del Sol; he is known for his Chef From Hell barbecue sauce). Offerings include beef, chicken and seafood entrees priced between $8 and $14, lunchtime sandwiches and burgers starting at $6.50, and entree salads from $6 to $8.
Ledbetter is a veteran manager of upscale restaurants in Texas, but his most recent stint was a five-year run with Cici's Pizza, the national chain of pizza buffet restaurants. Ledbetter opened Cici's restaurants in Las Vegas and Phoenix, and opened and ran the only Tucson location at Ina and Shannon roads for several months after it opened in March 2009.
Jimmy's is open from 10:30 a.m. to midnight Mondays through Thursdays; 10:30 a.m. to 2 a.m. Fridays and Saturdays; and 7 a.m. to midnight Sundays. Details: 638-7295

Stockyards Cafe set to close Saturday
The Marana Stockyards Cafe will close at the end of business Saturday.
But the closing is likely to be short-lived, said the cafe's owner, Clay Parsons.
He anticipates the cafe, which has served breakfast and lunch to the public and clients of Parson's Marana Stockyards & Livestock Market for the past 15 years, will have a new operator on board by the time it reopens from its summer hiatus. The stockyards, which hosts weekly livestock auctions, is closed for the month of July.
Longtime cafe employee Pennie Vandervier has operated the cafe since 2004. She is leaving to attend to family obligations, she said.
The Stockyards Cafe, 14901 W. Kirby Hughes Road, is open 6:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. daily. Details: 682-4319.
