Marana hot dog restaurant closes
Bubby's Chicago Style Hot Dogs in Marana's Continental Ranch neighborhood served its last meals last Thursday.
Owner Mike Joseph closed the 15-month-old fast-food restaurant at 9190 N. Coachline Blvd.
Joseph said the business struggled because of its location - overshadowed by Walgreens on the corner of Coachline Boulevard and Twin Peaks Road - and town ordinances that forbid additional signage beyond the sign posted on the building.
Joseph said he would like to relocate the business, possibly near the University of Arizona.
"I think we have a winning concept here, and I would love to think that I can move to another location. It's just going to take some time to let the dust settle," he said.

Burger chain opens in Marana, Tucson
Owner Kevin Hart was scurrying about nearly breathless one afternoon last week. The buzz in the dining room of his newly opened Culver's on the east side nearly drowned out his voice over the phone.
"We are busy," he proclaimed, which is not surprising.
On Monday, Kyle Kolsrud told the handful of people who turned up at his door before 9 a.m. that they would have to wait a spell; he wasn't opening his Marana Culver's restaurant until 10 a.m.
No problem, the eight or so folks assured him, then pulled out lawn chairs and settled in for the wait.
Both of the restaurants - at 40 S. Broadway Place, off Broadway and Prudence; and 6905 N. Thornydale Road - are independently owned and feature the Wisconsin-based burger chain's signature ButterBurgers, sandwiches, salads and frozen custard. The east-side location, which reportedly set an opening-day sales record for Culver's, is open from 10 a.m. to 11 p.m. daily; the Marana store is open 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. daily.
