Texas singer/songwriter Terri Hendrix returns to Tucson with her musical partner, the celebrated studio session player Lloyd Maines, on Saturday for an intimate show at Zuzi Theater.
Hendrix in the past decade has risen from Austin coffeehouse chanteuse to one of the Lone Star state's most beloved roots artists. She's also garnering a strong fan base in Tucson after headlining the 21st annual Tucson Folk Festival in 2006 and returning early last summer to open for David Bromberg.
Hendrix's sound straddles that fine line dividing country and folk, with a raw intensity fueled by an energetic stage presence. The Washington Post boasted that "Hendrix's voice, intimate and expressive, is reason enough to keep listening, and the combination of Lloyd Maines' musicianship and production savvy seals the deal."
Saturday's concert begins at 7:30 p.m. at Zuzi Theater, 738 N. Fifth Ave., in the Historic Y. It is a production of Rhythm and Roots. Tickets are $17 in advance through Antigone Books, Enchanted Earthworks or Plaza Liquors on North Campbell Avenue; or by calling 440-4455. Tickets are $20 at the door.
