The Swara Sonora Trio is continuing fundraising efforts to support its summer tour of Indonesia.
This Saturday it will perform classical works, opera greats and musical-theater gems in a matinee concert at La Zarzuela Inn. Proceeds will fund the trio's trip to Indonesia, where it will perform a series of concerts and workshops to benefit UNICEF's children's programs.
The trio — pianist Aryo Wicaksono, soprano Kathryn Mueller and baritone Nathan Krueger — calls the trip "The Peace Tour." They will spend three weeks total visiting Jakarta, Surabaya and Denpasar. They will give concerts and master classes and meet young musicians in collaboration with Indonesian musicians. They also will visit UNICEF's Indonesian offices, according to a written statement from Wicaksono, a native of the country.
Earlier this year, the trio launched its 100 friends campaign on its Web site, www.swarasonora.com. It is hoping 100 people will donate at least $10 apiece to help fund the trip. So far, the trio has 54 friends and has raised $1,475, according to the Web site.

The Swara Sonora Trio members met while graduate students at the University of Arizona. All three have clocked in time teaching opera and language arts to first-graders through the Tucson Unified School District's Opening Minds Through the Arts program. Krueger and Wicaksono still teach together at Hudlow and Corbett elementary schools.
Saturday's concert, which will showcase the lighter side of the trio's repertoire (solos and duets by Mozart, Donizetti, Bernstein, Sondheim and others), begins at 3 p.m. at La Zarzuela, 455 N. Camino de Oeste. Tickets are $25 and include a reception with wine and hors d'oeuvres. Reservations are required by calling Kathryn Mueller at 240-9853.
