Finding the right senior-living facility has been compared to picking the right for college: It’s important to visit more than one so you have a basis for comparison.
“Every community is unique. Every facility is unique,” says Adina Wingate, director of marketing and public relations for the Pima Council on Aging.
To aid in the search, the Arizona Daily Star in partnership with the council, is offering a free Primetime Tour of two Green Valley independent- and assisted-living facilities: Arroyo Gardens and The Villas at Green Valley.
The tour rolls Saturday, March 25 via a Gray Line Tours bus, which will depart the Star, 4850 S. Park Ave., at 8 a.m. and return about 4 p.m. A secondary pickup location in Green Valley may be added. Lunch will be provided free.
“A tour of individual facilities — assisted-living homes, retirement communities, assisted-living centers and skilled-nursing facilities — is essential for a consumer to get a real-time sense of the services, amenities and accommodations in a facility,” says Wingate.

“I hope the startup Primetime Tours will provide consumers with accurate information about all the housing options available to them,” she says. “Understanding what the options are and the needs they fill is the first step to making an informed choice.”
PCOA, which is the local Area Agency on Aging, aims to provide unbiased, accurate information to help adults make informed decisions.
During the tour, Wingate will provide information about housing options and give tour-goers a copy of “A Guide for Making Housing Decisions,” a consumer-directed document put together by the National Association of Area Agencies on Aging, in partnership with the American Bar Association Commission on Law and Aging.
Seniors and their family, friends and caregivers are welcome to join the tour. It’s free, but seats are limited. The Gray Line Tours bus can accommodate walkers, wheelchairs, scooters and other health needs.
