Three men were booked into the Pima County jail July 29, 2014, in connection with an attempted armed robbery. All three — Jose Valenzuela, 22, Adrian Varela, 21, and Luis Varela, 26 (pictured) — face charges of attempted armed robbery and attempted aggravated robbery. Luis Varela faces an additional charge because he was a prohibited possessor with a gun.
At about 3:30 a.m. July 29, TPD received a 911 call about a possible prowler in front of a residence in the 6000 block of South John Vic Place near Park Avenue and Bilby Road. After receiving the call, officers responded to the area to investigate. Upon arrival, they located three armed suspects wearing masks, on the front porch of the residence. The suspects fled as officers approached. Officers quickly locked down the neighborhood and pursued the suspects. All three suspects were captured and multiple weapons were recovered. Detectives were able to determine that the suspects had chosen a random residence to conduct a home invasion.
