The employees of Blake’s Lotaburger on East Speedway got word in mid-September that they needed to look for a new job.
The restaurant at 2810 E. Speedway is set to close Oct. 11, according to manager Gino Zeneiano.
The closing comes 10½ years after Blake’s entered the Tucson market with the Speedway flagship store. Within a year after its April 2016 opening, the New Mexico burger chain known for its green-chile cheeseburgers, had three Tucson locations.
Blake’s Lotaburger’s Tucson flagship at 2810 E. Speedway is closing on Oct. 11 to make way for an Eegee’s. Blake's two other Tucson locations are unaffected.
The other two are not affected by the Speedway closing, according to employees of those restaurants. Company officials in Albuquerque could not be reached for additional comment.
The Speedway location will become home to Eegee’s by year’s end after the local sandwich and iced drink chain closed its location at 2510 E. Speedway on Sept. 28.
