It was named in 1927 for 2nd Lts. Samuel H. Davis and Oscar Monthan, Tucsonans killed in separate aerial accidents while serving in the U.S. Army. Almost 90 years later, Davis-Monthan AFB it is a mainstay military base in Southern Arizona.
