An 18-year-old woman was killed Tuesday afternoon when she stood in front of a train and was struck.
The young woman had a suicide note with her and jumped in front of the train despite the conductor's efforts to avoid hitting her, according to Sgt. Fabian Pacheco, a Tucson Police Department spokesman.
The incident occurred just after noon at the Union Pacific switching yard near Campbell Avenue and 22nd Street, he said.
The train was heading west when the conductor saw the woman standing on the track, Pacheco said.
The conductor switched to a track to the right of the woman at which time she followed and stood in the train's path, he said.
The conductor was unable to stop in time and the woman was killed.
Her name was not released.
