Tucson police are investigating the discovery of a badly decomposing body found Wednesday on the South Side.
About 5:30 p.m., police were notified of the body, which was found by in a desert area north of the Fry’s shopping center at West Ajo Way and South 16th Avenue, said Sgt. Fabian Pacheco, a department spokesman.
The area is frequented by transients and police are interviewing the man who discovered the body and others who hang out in the area, Pacheco said.
Because of the decomposition, all that was immediately evident is that the body is an adult male.
“We’re going to rely heavily on the Medical Examiner’s office to determine the cause of death,” Pacheco said.
