This may not be a trait you typically ascribe to the lead guitarist of a country group, but that’s part of what makes The Mother Truckers unique.
“We’re definitely not influenced by contemporary country at all,” Zee said from a tour van making its way from Alabama to Texas. “If anything, it’s a mix of rock and what I would call authentic, classic country blended together.”
Along with Zee, who also sings, The Mother Truckers consist of Zee’s wife, Teal Collins, on vocals, ukulele and guitar; Dan Thompson on drums; and Danny G. on bass.
The excellent live band from Austin, Texas, has released its third album, “Let’s All Go to Bed.”
The Mother Truckers started around 2002 in San Francisco, when Collins and Zee met at an open mic night. The group later relocated to Texas, a more suitable setting for its brand of honky-tonk rock.
