Raymond Godoy pleaded guilty to hindering prosecution in a murder case today in exchange for dropping the first-degree murder and assault charges he faced.
Godoy, 17 was accused of attempting to rob a boy and his friend as they walked home from Park Place Mall Jan. 4, 2008.
Godoy’s cousin Anthony Richard Encinas, 19 was convicted last month of shooting and killing Derreck Burruss, 16, during the attempted robbery. He was also found guilty of attempted robbery and attempted aggravated robbery.
Godoy faced the same charges at a trial scheduled for May, but his plea also included dropping those charges, Godoy’s attorney Jill Thorpe said today.
Godoy pleaded guilty to hiding the gun Encinas used to kill Burruss.
Godoy’s sentencing is scheduled for April 21. He could be sentenced to probation, or between two and 8.75 years in prison.
