MESA - A 33-foot scuba lagoon with coral, a wave pool and a white-water river are just some of the attractions planned for a $250 million water park resort proposed in Mesa.
Developers of the resort at Mesa's Riverview revealed the details of the project at a neighborhood meeting on Monday.
Other features unveiled by the Scottsdale developers hoping to build the park include an indoor aquatic center, a resort hotel, a spa-and-wellness center, and a retail and residential complex with condominiums towering up to 10 stories.
Backers say the project is designed to attract tourists and will be unlike traditional water parks in the area.
"It's frankly hard to grasp for those who haven't seen it," said Ralph Pew, a land-use attorney for Waveyard.
In a drought, some may wonder if the project will use too much water.

Developer Richard Mladick told nearby residents the park is estimated to use roughly the same amount of water annually as an 18-hole golf course.
The Mesa Planning and Zoning Board is expected to begin reviewing the project May 8.
