Two men were arrested and $61,000 worth of ecstasy was seized on the South Side on Wednesday after an officer conducted a routine traffic stop, police said Friday.
A Tucson Police Department motorcycle officer was patrolling in the area of South Midvale Park Road and West Maplewood Drive when he stopped a vehicle for a traffic violation, according to a news release.
The officer developed probable cause to arrest the two men in the vehicle and discovered approximately 2,500 ecstasy tablets hidden in the vehicle with a street value of $61,000.
Ernesto Leyva Martinez, 45, of Hermosillo, Sonora, was booked into the Pima County jail on suspicion of possession and transportation of a dangerous drug. He remained in jail Friday in lieu of $100,000 bond.
Giovany M. Perez, 28, of Tucson was arrested on the same charge, but was released from jail the same day.
