A Navy SEAL injured whiled conducting parachute training near Marana on Thursday has died, according to a Navy news release.
It’s the second fatal parachuting incident involving SEALs to occur at the training facility since February.
Thursday’s incident occurred around 8 a.m. with the injured SEAL airlifted to University Medical Center, according to a news release from the Navy’s Special Warfare Command. He was pronounced dead at the hospital.
The SEAL, who isn’t being identified until his family is contacted, was based on the East Coast. In the wake of the incident, Navy officials have suspended parachute training at the facility near Marana.
On Feb. 13, Senior Chief Thomas J. Valentine was killed during a free-fall training exercise. His body was found at the Mission Royale Golf Course in Casa Grande, 30 miles south of Phoenix. Both incidents are under investigation.
