A registered sex offender was sentenced to one year in prison Monday morning after pleading guilty to trying to use his camera phone to photograph up a 16-year-old girl’s skirt.
James Arthur Edwards was seen taking inappropriate photos of the girl by shoppers at the Fry's Food & Drug Store at 7050 E. 22nd St. around 1 p.m. June 4, according to police,
Edwards, who has past convictions for sexual assault and indecent exposure, was charged with a single count of secretly viewing or recording another person without their consent, a Class 5 felony.
However, Edwards, 36, was allowed to plead guilty to the less serious charge of attempted recording of another person after the FBI failed to find any pictures on the camera, said defense attorney Michael Lange.
Edwards could have been given probation, but Pima County Superior Court Judge Frank Dawley opted to give him the maximum 1-year sentence, Lange said.
