Two men escaped uninjured from a burning recreational vehicle on Interstate 10 near Marana Friday night.
Shortly before 10 p.m., Northwest Fire District firefighters were dispatched to a burning vehicle fire on westbound I-10 near Marana, said Capt. Adam Goldberg, a district spokesman.
When firefighters arrived at the scene, the 1989 Southwind RV was fully engulfed in flames. It took a crew six minutes to bring the blaze under control, Goldberg said.
The driver, 61, and his grandson, 24, noticed flames coming from the engine compartment up the floorboard on the passenger's side. The driver pulled over on the interstate and both climbed out of the vehicle, and one called 911, said Goldberg.
Investigators said the cause of the fire was mechanical failure that originated in the engine compartment. The estimated damage was $2,000, Goldberg said.

He said the vehicle was purchased earlier Friday at a Tucson auction, and the men were traveling back home to Maricopa, which is near Phoenix, when the fire broke out.
