Tucson water Director David Modeer is leaving the city to become the Water Department Director for the city of Phoenix, officials from both cities said today.
Modeer, who has been at the head of Tucson Water since 1998, said he had mixed feelings in leaving. He came into the job after Tucson Water was in shambles in the mid-1990s after it treated Central Arizona Project water to people homes that damages pipes and appliances.
Modeer said he wants to work another 10 years in the water services business, and felt he would be tempted to retire by the Tucson’s early retirement benefits program if he had stayed in Tucson.
Modeer’s last day with the city is in mid-April. He said he expects to start in Phoenix by May.
