ST. LOUIS • Missouri Secretary of State Jason Kander today made a national Internet video appearance to implore the country not to adopt a federal version of Missouri's no-limit campaign finance system.
Kander, a Democrat, told HuffPost Live, a video-streaming network under The Huffington Post, that Missouri's “virtually lawless system” of campaign finance ensures that average people “don't have the same voice that people who can make massive contributions have.”
As an example, he pointed to campaign mega-donor and retired St. Louis investor Rex Sinquefield, who pumped some $5 million in political campaigns last year—including six figures to Kander's election opponent, Republican Shane Schoeller.

“It really paints a perfect picture of where America will go if it goes down the road of not having contribution limits in federal campaigns,” said Kander.
Missouri has no enforced campaign donation limits, a rarity among states.
Federal campaign donors are generally limited to $2,600. But court decisions in recent years have been expanding the loopholes around that limit, including the unleashing of so-called “super PACs” that can spend unlimited amounts in support of candidates.
