A Chihuahua named Ichi found a pal and a new home with a deputy who first spotted the abused tan-and-white pooch covered in cactus during a call.
On July 21, Deputy Alejandro Alcantara was on a call at a house on Tucson's south side when he first saw the injured and scared dog, a Pima County Sheriff's Department posting on its Facebook page said.
Ichi's owner was charged with animal cruelty.
Ichi was sent to the Pima Animal Control Center to recuperate.
The deputy made regularly checks on Ichi and as soon as the dog was deemed adoptable, Alcantara made Ichi a part of his family.
