A Tucson man struck in a hit-and-run on the southeast side last month died of his injuries Sunday.
Jonathan Potts, 33, died from injuries he received in the June 28 incident near South Houghton and East Escalante roads, said Sgt. Pete Dugan, a Tucson Police Department spokesman.
At about 8:30 p.m., officers were dispatched to a report of a hit-and-run in the area of Houghton and Escalante roads, and found Potts injured on the ground near his vehicle.
Paramedics with the Tucson Fire Department transported Potts to Banner-University Medical Center Tucson with life-threatening injuries, Dugan said.
Detectives learned that Potts, who was traveling north on Houghton with his two teen-aged sons, knew the occupants in the suspect vehicle. Text messages were sent back and forth between occupants of the two vehicles before the crash, said Dugan.

He said Potts was being followed on Houghton by the suspect vehicle, and as Potts approached Escalante he pulled over and climbed out of his vehicle. He stood by the roadway, and the suspect vehicle approached and struck Potts and left the scene, Dugan said.
Detectives spoke to witnesses who saw the hit-and-run, and investigators located the suspect vehicle and spoke with two people who were in the vehicle at the time of the crash.
Dugan said detectives are reviewing evidence and verifying information in the continuing investigation. No arrest has been made.
Detectives believe there are more witnesses to the crash, and are asking that anyone with information call 911 or 88-CRIME.
Since January, there have been 28 traffic fatalities in the city, compared to 16 at this time in 2014, according to police statistics.
