An electrical fire within a wall at a southside Denny’s restaurant has caused the restaurant to close temporarily.
The fire caused an estimated $10,000 in damage. No one was injured during the blaze at 1510 W. Valencia Road.
An employee called 911 shortly before 1 a.m. Monday and reported that a light smoke was filling the restaurant, said Capt. Jeff Langejans of Tucson Fire Department.
Five employees and five customers were evacuated from the building by the time firefighters arrived within five minutes.
An exterior wall that housed an electrical box and lighting appliance had been smoldering for hours, Langejans said.
It took 17 minutes to locate and bring the fire under control, said Langejans.
Officials with the city’s building safety department and the Pima County Health Department were notified, and will determine when the restaurant can reopen for business, Langejans said.
