Trio of historic Tucson motels being demolished
Demolition continues on three historic Tucson motels — the Tucson Inn, Frontier Motel and Copper Cactus — along West Drachman Street, between North Main and North Stone avenues. The Arizona Court of Appeals recently denied a request by historic preservationists to block Pima Community College from razing them.
The PCC Governing Board unanimously voted in November against spending about $36 million to restore three historic motels along West Drachman Street. The school instead voted to raze them at a cost of about $500,000 and try to preserve the motels’ neon signs.
