The Spencer Canyon Campground in the Catalina Mountains has once again been temporarily closed by Coronado National Forest officials because of reports of mountain lion activity in the area.
The campground was closed last week due to reports of a mountain lion sighting, but it re-opened Friday after authorities found no trace of a lion.
The current closure came after campers reported hearing what sounded like a female lion’s mating call in the campground area, said Mark Hart, spokesman for the Arizona Game and Fish Department.
“We have investigated, but we could not find tracks or scat or hair confirming the presence of a lion,” Hart said. “But that doesn’t mean a lion wasn’t there. We will continue to monitor it.”
