JOE VITTI / ARIZONA DAILY STAR 1983 Now you can shop for toys, cell phones or glasses at this location, but for almost 70 years this beautiful estate stood at 4519 N. Oracle Road, just across from Tucson Mall. Built about 1914, the 20-room Spanish-style structure, known as Avalon House, originally stood on 40 acres. Three teachers from the university, known as "The Three Graces," lived and entertained there for more than 40 years. Eventually, the stately mansion became Adair Funeral Home's Avalon House. But on Jan. 18, 1983, the future of the home was in doubt. It had recently been sold and although the new owner expressed hope that it could be saved, fate had something else in store.
