1889: Sheriff Glen Reynolds and Sheriff W.A. "Hunkydory" Holmes of Globe are killed by the Apache Kid and seven other Apache prisoners whom they are escorting to the penitentiary.
1919: Sixteen of 37 autos which left El Paso for a race to Phoenix arrive in Bisbee. Only six of them finally finish the race in Phoenix.
1999: Tucson voters approve the Rio Nuevo proposition, 62 percent to 38 percent. Priorities include designing plans for restoration of the historic Mission San Agustín complex east of "A" Mountain's base and an aquarium, east of Interstate 10 and south of West Congress. Other priorities include a private convention hotel east of I-10, private housing and retail shops, improvements to some historic and cultural facilities downtown and construction of Rio Nuevo-site museums.
