A $1.7 million Rural/Metro Fire Department station opened in Sahuarita, an official announced Thursday.
Fire Station 79 is about 9,000 square feet and houses nine firefighters and paramedics at 765 W. Via Rancho Sahuarita, said Capt. Grant Cesarek.
The new station can house up to five fire engines, and the building follows the design of the town center, Cesarek said.
The station was built within feet of the temporary station, and the project was completed without disruption of emergency services, Cesarek said.
The station includes a large kitchen, dining room area, and dorm-room-style bedrooms fitted with a twin-size mattress, small desk and locker for clothing.
Sahuarita residents are invited to stop at the station for a tour anytime, Cesarek said.
