Don't worry — it's not what it looks like: Santa Claus had not been in an accident. Instead, on Dec. 24, 1973, he was helping the American Red Cross by donating blood. Santa, who also answered to William Pearson, knew that during the holidays the blood bank always needs donors. Nurse Doris Runyon assisted Santa with his gift-giving.
