A child has the season's first confirmed flu case in Pima County, health officials say.
County health officials used the case to urge residents to get vaccinated.
"Our first confirmed influenza case of the season serves as an important reminder for everyone to get vaccinated to protect themselves, their loved ones and the community," Dr. Francisco GarcĂa, Pima County's health department director said in a news release. Influenza is a preventable illness and now is the best time to get your flu shot because it does take one to two weeks to produce immunity."
A flu shot is recommended for everyone six months and older, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
Pima County reported more than 2,000 confirmed cases of flu last season and 15 cases were associated adult deaths, the news release said.
