Anyone with old paperwork laying around the house can have those documents shredded for free at a Saturday event on the east side.
The Pima County Sheriff’s Department is hosting a shred-a-thon, which are offered several times a year, allowing citizens a quick and easy opportunity to safely dispose of documents that might contain personal information.
Members of the Sheriff’s Auxiliary Volunteers will be at Pima Community College’s East Campus, 8181 E. Irvington Road, near South Pantano Road, starting at 8 a.m. and will assist in the drive-through shredding service until 10 a.m., or whenever the trucks are filled up, according to a Sheriff’s Department news release.
Because the events are very popular, a long wait time is possible.
People are asked to remain in their cars, and allow an attendant to transfer the boxes to a bin for shredding.

Up to five file-sized boxes of paperwork will be accepted per car, but business documents will not be accepted, the news release said.
The department hosts shredding events across town, multiple times a year to raise public awareness about identity theft and help people decrease their chances of becoming a victim.
