The recipient of this week’s Ben’s Bell is Agua Caliente Elementary School teacher Della Thompson.
She was nominated by Angela Donelson, whose children are Thompson’s former students, for her compassion, creative teaching methods and community service.
Thompson has three children, including a 17-year-old son who has autism and is nonverbal, Donelson wrote in her nomination letter.
“She draws from this experience to shower everyone around her with great compassion, patience and love,” Donelson wrote.
Donelson wrote that Thompson is loved by all of her students.
“She helps them achieve their potential by skillfully tailoring instruction to children of all abilities through creative means in the classroom,” Donelson wrote. “Her students act out multiplication theater to learn math facts, use cartooning and art as a means of unlocking the love of writing and storytelling, and experiment with multiple methods to understand their best learning styles.”
