Two Raytheon employees were injured Wednesday morning during a fire in a chemical storage compartment at Raytheon, officials said.
The fire started just before 11:30 a.m. at Raytheon’s main facility on East Hermans Road just south of Tucson International, said Darin Wallentine, a Tucson Fire Department spokesman.
A Raytheon employee was handling chemical waste material when they observed smoke, Raytheon spokesman John B. Patterson said. The company is investigating the incident, he said.
Hazardous materials teams from both Raytheon and Tucson Fire dealt with the blaze, which was extinguished before 1 p.m., Wallentine said.
No information was available as to what type of chemicals were being housed in the storage compartment, he said.
The injured employees were transported to a local hospital, Wallentine said.
