Led Zeppelin, widely acknowledged as one of the greatest rock bands of all time, performed at the Tucson Community Center in June 1972 after the release of its fourth album, which featured the band’s signature song, “Stairway to Heaven.”
The band formed after guitarist Jimmy Page needed to finish out remaining tour dates after the collapse of the Yardbirds. He recruited singer Robert Plant, left, and the New Yardbirds morphed into Led Zeppelin. The band sold nearly 300 million records before its breakup in 1980. They were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1995.
