School districts get school supplies, food
Backpacks, school supplies, books and energy bars were donated to several local school districts, including Marana and Amphitheater Nov. 7, by the Oklahoma City-based charity Feed the Children.
The donations, which came from a partnership with the National Association of Educators for Homeless Children and Youth, are meant for students who are homeless or dealing with transitional living situations. The Tucson Unified and Sunnyside districts also received donations from Feed the Children.
Reading program seeks coaches
With an hour a week, volunteers help shape students' lives and enhance their ability to learn.
The Reading Seed program, which works with students who are reading below grade level, is seeking volunteers. Those interested complete a three-hour training workshop - which is usually taught by Reading Seed co-founder and veteran reading coach Allan Tractenberg - then must pass a background and fingerprint clearance. Volunteers read with children one hour a week.

The program works with students in first, second and third grades at several districts in the county, as well as at charter and private schools.
