A Beyond Tucson event Saturday at Sabino Canyon northeast of Tucson is intended to “celebrate health, diversity and good will,” Coronado National Forest officials announced.
Day-use fees at the canyon will be waived for the daylong event, which is part of a citywide Beyond Tucson observance commemorating those lost in a mass shooting on Jan. 8, 2011, and remembering the spirit of togetherness in the days and months following the tragedy.
A family nature walk, led by members of the Sabino Canyon Volunteer Naturalists, will begin at 10 a.m. and last approximately two hours. An educational display, designed to promote enjoyment of the outdoors, will be available for viewing from 10 a.m. to noon. Daylong activities include a Junior Ranger Program.
Henry Provencio, acting district ranger with the forest, said the event is made possible by the work of the volunteer naturalists and the Santa Catalina volunteer patrol.
