An elevator glitch and subsequent rescue shut down the Pima County Superior Court this afternoon, officials say.
Two people were in the elevator - believed to be an inmate and a corrections officer - when it shot up several floors from the basement about 1 p.m, said Capt. Trish Tracy, of the Tucson Fire Department.
The elevator is believed to have stopped before hitting the top floor.
The courthouse was evacuated during a rescue effort that resulted in several fire and police officials being dispatched downtown.
The elevator is not open to the general public. It is in a secure part of the courthouse and is used by security personnel and inmates.
The rescue effort closed Superior Court for about an hour.
Injuries are believed to have been minor. County crews are trying to determine what caused the elevator to shoot up.
