TV show may feature students from CDO
The Food Network will air a TV show Friday that could feature culinary arts students from Canyon del Oro High School, 25 W. Calle Concordia.
The students helped put together a 426-foot-long cheesesteak sandwich on the University of Arizona Mall in early April with Frankie Santos, who owns Frankie's South Philly Cheesesteaks, 2574 N. Campbell Ave., and Albert Hall, chef/owner of Acacia Real Food & Cocktails, 3001 E. Skyline Drive.
The making of the cheesesteak - dubbed the world's longest, though no such record is actually kept in any book - was filmed for the Food Network's "Outrageous Food" show.
Four-hundred pounds of meat, onions and seasonings, 100 pounds of Cheez Whiz and 142 loaves of bread were used to create the cheesesteak, according to Star archives.

Oracle school board calls for bond vote
The Oracle Elementary School District Governing Board called for a November bond election after discussing the matter at a special meeting June 16.
The vote was split 3-2, with board president Kurt Steffens and board member Nellie Doran opposed.
The meeting was held a week after one at which several members of the public addressed the board about its plans. Those plans call for a $15.4 million bond election to help the district pay for new buses, building demolition and reconstruction, remodeling and upgrades to landscaping, playgrounds, athletic fields, maintenance equipment, roofs and technology at its two elementary schools.
The board plans to formally adopt a resolution July 14 calling for the bond election and will hold meetings before then to finalize the scope of the projects, district Superintendent Todd Kissick wrote in an email.
Marana student gets first Metro honor
Tucson's Metro Car Wash recently awarded its first scholarship to Marana High School graduate Terrence Peel-Charles.
The Metro-Harkin Scholarship was conceived a year ago by Metro owner Sean Storer and high school English teacher Jeremy Harkin to honor any graduating Tucson-area high school student with a year of paid tuition at Pima Community College.
Peel-Charles stood out because of his 3.4 GPA and his activity in the school Key Club as well as his volunteer work with various charity events including AIDS Walk and the Special Olympics. He also was noted for studying in Germany during his junior year despite not knowing the language nor anyone in the country.
He plans to attend PCC for two years then transfer to the University of Arizona.
